Cell Phones In Schools: Popular To Students and Unpopular To Teachers
Cell phones (more commonly know as mobile phones) are long-range, portable devices that allow people to communicate with each other. Although they are basically used as telephones without the wires, recent moves in the technology have given them enough power to be used as computers. Cell phones can be used to make calls and send text messages, as well as compose, edit, send and receive emails. This is what has made cell phones in schools more popular among students. However, this is also why cell phones in schools have become unpopular with peers and teachers.
Cell phones in schools have given an opportunity for students to do research in remote areas such as the cafeteria or the football field. But the technology is also rapidly becoming a tool in the act of cheating. There were some cases where students were caught using cell phones in schools as a way to answer exam questions. The answers would be sourced from an outsider who had all the books containing the correct answers. It is for this reason that cell phones in schools have become more of a nuisance rather than an accessory for children’s parents to keep in touch with them in cases of emergency.
Another problem with cell phones in schools is that they are also used as tools for bullying other children. Many schools these days question the usage of cell phones in schools as a necessity between children and their parents because of the other activities the phones are used for. It does not make for a secure environment for many students who fall victim to the abuse of possible cell phone grabbing. Cell phones in schools are now facing bans nationwide in the US alone. In an effort to reach a common ground for those who are pro- and against the use of cell phones in schools, some schools and teachers have created rules for those who have cell phones in schools.
